About the San Francisco Garter Snake
This slender multi-coloured snake has keeled dorsal blue-green scales, bordered by stripes of black, red and blue-green. Its eyes are large compared to other species of garter snakes, giving the snake good eyesight to be primarily active during the day.

In spring time, this species comes together in very large numbers to breed. ‘Breeding balls’ of snakes can be observed containing 20 snakes or more at a time
