Drayton Manor Zoo is now a full member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), positioning it alongside some of Europe’s best zoos.

The membership follows two rigorous screening visits where experts investigated all aspects of the zoos activities, focusing closely on animal welfare, conservation, research and education. Following the visits, EAZA were very happy with the standards that our Zoo had set for itself and is excited about where the zoo is heading.

Chris Mitchell, our Zoo Manager said: “We are delighted with our EAZA membership and I think it is a great reflection of the work we do here, and how we go above and beyond to make sure all the animals’ needs are met.

“Sadly, animals in the wild are becoming extinct at an alarming rate and zoos not only narrate this story but also help connect people with nature. Zoos carry out vital conservation work and are key to safeguarding animals and habitats for future generations.”

The Zoo has a wide collection of creatures great and small including a pair of critically endangered Sumatran tigers, bouncing Red Kangaroos, fascinating Spider Monkeys, cotton topped Tamarins and a mischievous Meerkat mob.

Drayton Manor Park is an open plan attraction, so visitors don’t have to pay an additional fee for entry into the zoo, and it’s a great place to take a break from all the theme park has to offer.

We are delighted with our EAZA approved status, it is a fantastic start to a 5 year plan as we look to develop many features within the Zoo.
