Endemic to southwestern Madagascar, these small colubrids have slim bodies with a distinct head. Their most notable characteristic are the large vertical pupils that gives the snake their common name. Even though this snake has a strong arboreal nature they can be see hunting on the ground, where their habitat consists largely of thorn bushes. This species is an opportunistic feeder, often observed feeding on amphibians.
