Drayton Manor Park recently announced the appointment of two new members to its team; Zoo Manager Chris Mitchell and Guest Engagement Manager Beverley James in an effort to further enhance its services and improve visitor experience.
With a career spanning over two decades, Chris Mitchell brings with him a wealth of experience in animal and zoo management. Previously, he spent eight years in Cameroon as the Founder and Director of Cameroon Wildlife Aid Fund (now Ape Action Africa), an organisation that rescues orphaned gorillas and chimpanzees. He also did a stint in the USA working with gorillas that have been taught the American Sign Language.
In his current role, he is responsible for every aspect of managing and developing the zoo. These include understanding and creating awareness on animal behavioural issues, ensuring proper animal care and nutrition, developing enclosure design as well as planning and running emergency drills.
Beverley James spent over eight years at National Express prior to joining Drayton Manor Park, where she served as Contact Centre Manager and the General Manager responsible for the organisation’s seven coach stations at Bristol, Cardiff, Bournemouth, Southampton, Portsmouth, Oxford and Norwich.
As the new Guest Engagement Manager, she is responsible for the overall Call Centre and Guest Services operations. These include devising and driving standards across the whole of the business for every customer touch point.
Chris Mitchell said : “I was looking for a new challenge and believe that Drayton Manor Zoo has the best number and variety of animals that I enjoy working with. There is enormous potential at the zoo to engage and educate guests and to deliver significant conservation and research initiatives.
“I greatly value working alongside the team and the support I have experienced has been amazing. Drayton Manor is a great place to work, and I can honestly say there is nothing else I would prefer doing,” Chris concluded.
Beverley added : “When I decided on a new career move, it was important to me to find the right organisation. I want to be in a company that places a strong emphasis on being a ‘people’s business’. I sincerely believe that Drayton Manor Park embodies this.
“Moreover, I love the trust and freedom to be able to deliver independently within my role here. Drayton Manor Park offers massive scope and opportunity for me to make a positive difference to the business, commercially and strategically,” Beverley concluded.
